Back to the Grind

After the long weekend, the league has resumed play.  We have lucked out so far this season with the weather as we have limited our rain make-ups.  We will begin scheduling these games shortly.  I do need to have all managers update there scores on the website as I am unable to update the standings without these.  We are currently missing scores for the last 7 games played.  Even if your game was rained out or not played it still needs to be recorded on the website.  This helps keep track of all games that have been played and still need to be played.

The league has finally spoken up and we have a field that we can be happy with.  For the most part the infield has been raked and lined at least once a week if not as many as 2 times in one week.  This has been great for the our games as we are seeing less bad hops on the infield resulting in less injuries.  Also with the pipe covered down the 3rd base line we are able to run home without fear of tearing a knee or an ankle.

Our All-Star and Home Run Derby festivities are coming up soon.  There will be more information to follow on this.  We will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs.  I hope all players are able to come and hang out or participate.  Bring families as we love having the kids out there shagging the balls during the home run derby.  The date will be determined shortly.

Happy New Year!!!

2010

The place where the next decade of co-ed softball begins!!

We are looking to continue to expand our softball league with the addition of new teams and players for the coming 2010 season.  If you are a team or player that is interested in a fun and competitive league that has been around since 1985, then this is your league.  We are looking for 3-5 new teams this year and expanding our league up to a maximum of 12 teams.  Our league is located in the Lowell area and has been part of the community since the beginning.  We have had many great contributions from our sponsors over the years in support of our teams from local establishments.  We look to continue that this year with more teams and sponsors of our ball clubs.  If you are interested as a player, please see our free agent section.  If you are interested in entering a team, please email us mail@emsoftballleague.com

Congratulations!!!!

2009 E.M. Softball League Champions

J-Nicks

Congratulations goes out to the 1st place and league champ, J-Nicks.  They had a tremendous year going 21-4 and winning there last 13 games in a row.  They beat a tremendous team in LFC to sneak out the win in the championship game.  This game was a low scoring affair until late in the game.  Both teams played great.

This was a great year for our league.  We had our usual teams come back this year and make a great showing.  Inferno had a great year this year, starting off the year with a 12-1 record and finishing with only 5 losses and finishing the regular season in second.  They are always a strong team that is feared by the league.  LFC finished third and made there 3rd appearance into the championship game in 3 years.  Another team that is always there at the end.  Hynes continues to surprise teams more and more each year.  They finished a strong 4th place and made a huge run in the playoffs.  They fell 1 game shy of the championship, but there efforts did not go unnoticed.    They beat all the top teams at least once.   We also had 3 new teams come in this year and make an immediate impact on our league for the better.  Master Batters, MediaTek, and BeerBellies all came in and made our league extremely competitive all year.  So many close games that came down to the the last at bat with all of these new teams.  This made for an extremely fun year for all teams.

We would like to thank everyone who played, participated and made this year of softball fun and competitive.  We look forward to seeing all of you in 2010 and any new teams in the coming years.

2009 All-Star Festivities

Friday July 10, 2009 starting @ 6:15pm

This is our 3rd annual All-Star night.  This has been a great success in the past.  It helps raise money for the league to lower costs for upcoming years and also gives a chance to hang out with the other teams for a fun filled softball night.  We will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as chips, candy, soda and Gatorade, so bring the family for a hamburger and hot dog and let your kids shag some balls in the outfield during the home run derby.  We would like as many people there as possible for food and to watch this event.  Please bring family and friends.

The home run derby kicks things off at 6:30pm with sign ups starting at 6:15pm.  Anyone can participate in the home run derby.  They do not have to be in the league.  It is a $10 fee to sign up and it is 50/50 split with the league for the males.  Last year we had 16 participants with the winner, Jeff Trainor, taking home $80 and the league raising $80.  We also have a female HR derby as well and the winning amount will be determined by how many participants are involved.  The home run derby is a 10 out event.  Any swing that is not a home run is an out.  If you hit a home run that is not considered an out.  You are only allowed to let 5 pitches go by without a swing (this is for time issues).

We will also have a 50/50 raffle ticket being sold and raffled off in the 3rd or 4th inning of the game.  The prices for the tickets are 1 ticket for $2, 10 tickets for $10, and 25 tickets for $20.  All tickets will be sold there and winner must be present to win.

The all star game will consist of 3 teams on one side and 4 teams on the other side.  Teams were picked out of a hat for this decision and also made as fair as possible (please see below for teams).  It is a one pitch game and everyone bats in the lineup.  The pitchers will rotate per inning.  Position players will also rotate giving everyone playing time.  Umpires are volunteers so yelling at them is definitely allowed.  If you are an All-star playing in the game, please wear your team jersey.

Home Team 1 - Infernos, Hynes, MediaTek, BeerBellies

-Please have your team choose 2 guys, 1 girl, and your pitcher

Away Team 2 - J-Nicks, LFC, MasterBatters

-Please have your team choose 3 guys, 1 girl, and your pitcher

Any questions please email the league at mail@emsoftballleague.com or post a message on the guestbook.

Next big event is the end of the year tournament!!!

League Fee Drops with League Changing to 1 Umpire

First Managers Meeting - Sunday March 1, 2008

February 12, 2009

After long deliberation, the commissioners have come to agreement that the league need to make a few changes to bring in a few new teams and keep the existing ones.  So in light of our GREAT RECESSION and field fees going up significantly this year we have decided to cut back.   The league has decided to go from 2 umpires down to 1 umpire, which has created a pretty decent decrease in our league fee.  Something everyone can be happy about.

Also discussed at the meeting was the by-laws.  Due to the decrease in umpires per game, we will be dropping the stealing rule from our by-laws.  It would not have been fair for the one umpire to ask him to call the game with this rule nor would it have been fair for the teams to always expect the correct call in such a bang bang play.  So this rule will be removed from the 2009 by-laws.

The home run rule and bat rule will stay the same for the 2009 season.  We have added a gentlemen's rule into the by-laws for pinch runners.  You will also be able to see this rule when the 2009 by-laws are posted.  The league will also be taking a strong stand on forfeits this year.  There will be more to come on this in our first managers meeting.

Our first managers meeting will be held Sunday March 1 at the Fire Fighters Club on Fletcher Street in Lowell, MA with the time TBD.
